From humble beginnings selling vitamins out of a garage in 1965 to operating a purpose built facility with nearly 100 staff, G&G has come a long way in 60 years. Our story is one of passion, progress and a deep-rooted commitment to improving lives through quality supplements.
Where it All Began
The seeds of G&G were first planted in the summer of 1956 when Sheila Gaiman became the first woman to join the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. While researching the benefits of Vitamin E, she discovered a glaring gap in the market. There was no supplement offering consumers the optimal amount.
Her husband David saw the opportunity and began producing higher-potency Vitamin E tablets. Armed with just a garage, a few contacts, and a mail-order system, the couple began supplying friends and neighbours with the new product. As demand grew, so did the need for larger premises – and soon, they opened their first shop on East Grinstead high street under the name Naturally Good, offering not just supplements, but whole foods and local baked goods.
A Legacy of Firsts
In 1987, G&G took the next major step by launching its own manufacturing line. With a commitment to purity, we developed the TruFil® encapsulation method, a ground-breaking process that allows supplements to be produced without the use of fillers or binders – something virtually unheard of at the time.
We also proudly became the first UK manufacturer to register an organic supplement with the Soil Association in 1996. This is a badge of honour we proudly still wear today as we continue to create certified organic products. We can also manufacture vegan, halal and kosher supplements where required.
Humanitarian History
One of G&G’s proudest undertakings came in the early 1990s. David received a call from the Soviet Academy of Medical Science, seeking help with a detoxification programme for those affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The programme combined high-dose B3 with sauna therapy to reduce radiation effects.
Without hesitation David and Sheila travelled to Moscow – armed with suitcases full of vitamins and tinned food. The results were profound: within weeks, participants’ radiation levels dropped dramatically. Over the following five years, G&G helped thousands across Russia, Siberia, and Kazakhstan. We became the first international company to supply vitamins to post-Soviet Russia. Our staff took turns flying to the country with capsule-filled luggage to ensure the support could continue uninterrupted.
Want to sell your own supplements?
That humanitarian initiative wasn’t a one-off. From supporting Agent Orange victims in Vietnam to backing local football teams, schools, and trans-Atlantic rowers, G&G has always believed in using our resources to do good. Most recently, we helped launch Nourish Fund, which has quickly grown into one of the supplement industry’s largest non-profit organisations.
Homegrown, Always
Through every stage of growth, G&G has remained proudly based in East Grinstead. We now operate from a custom-built facility on the edge of the town. Today, our site spans five buildings with a cutting-edge cleanroom (and another on the way), and sleek office spaces that reflect the innovation happening within.
Our connection with local schools, shops and the community as a whole are very important to us and we have no intention of moving anywhere else.
Looking Ahead
We may be celebrating six decades, but we’re not slowing down. This year brings major cleanroom expansions, new White Label product launches, and even the unveiling of our own on-site museum, showcasing artefacts and stories from G&G’s rich history.
We are also expanding our team and White Label offerings this year providing us with both new ideas and new products. Additionally, we have plans to work on something entirely new for you all, but more on that another time.
Thank You for 60 Years
We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come – and endlessly grateful to everyone who helped us get here. Whether you’ve been with us from the start or just discovered us recently, we’re excited to share the next chapter with you.
Here’s to another 60 years.
